Description
PCU RN - Night Shift
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
- Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
- Orientation: 1 day of unit/department-specific orientation
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Floating: Required to float to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU acuity patients
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
Unit Information
- Department: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 40 beds (average daily census 24)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (days and nights)
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:12
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes assignment
- Patient Population: Adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory problems, stroke, post stent/pacer placement, renal failure
- Cultural Populations Served: Primarily Hispanic and Somalian
Clinical Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of unit experience
- Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Competencies: Must be competent in Arterial Lines
- Drip Titration: Required (Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, insulin)
- Telemetry: RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Respiratory Equipment: High flow oxygen therapy; RNs troubleshoot equipment
- Additional Equipment: Overhead lifts in half the rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, bladder scanner
Policies & Additional Notes
- Nail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Driver’s License: Required at submission to verify candidate is within 50 miles radius
- Exam: Pass/fail open book exam during orientation; 90% required to pass or contract terminated
- Scheduling: Blocked scheduling generally not approved except weekends; no duo scheduling allowed
- RTO (Return to Office): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
- Success Factors: Team player, flexible, adaptable, good communication skills, willingness to learn and accept feedback
- Focus Areas: Patient experience scores, responsiveness, hospital environment, communication about medications
This position is ideal for a PCU RN who is experienced, adaptable, and comfortable working with a diverse patient population in a fast-paced progressive care setting.
