Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Columbus, Ohio

Job Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule & Shift

  • Weekdays with occasional weekends and rotating holidays
  • Night shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each
  • Must be willing to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Unit & Patient Care

  • Work within the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5
  • Utilize skills in IV starts and telemetry monitoring
  • Documentation using Epic system

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU
  • ACLS and BCLS certification required
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required

Licensure & Verification

  • State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Residency Declaration Form required if using a compact license from outside Ohio

Background & Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if driving)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio fingerprinting code (3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Background acknowledgement form required for subcontractors

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
