Job Summary: Multi Care Unit (MCU) Nurse - Prescott Valley, Arizona

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Multi Care Unit (MCU) combining ICU, PCU, and Med Surg (MST) acuities on one unit (no floating between units during shifts)
• Number of Beds: 10
• Patient Acuity & Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • PCU: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Med Surg (MST): 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio; if no nurse aide, RN provides primary care at 1:3 ratio
• Common Diagnoses:

  • ICU: Sepsis, suicide attempts, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID-19, DKA, abnormal blood pressure or heart rate, post-op complications
  • PCU: Non-titratable infusions to maintain heart rate or blood pressure

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience preferred
• Candidates with 1 year ICU + 1 year PCU/Med Surg experience from larger facilities with strong skills may be considered
• RNs are required to titrate drips (sedation, vasopressors, insulin)

Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Clinical Responsibilities

• Charge Nurse oversees 50 inpatient beds including MST, Pediatrics, and MCU
• Nurse Aides (NAs) care for 10-15 patients; if no NA, RN provides primary care to PCU & MST patients (1:3 ratio)
• Respiratory Therapy support available for vents, BiPAP, CPAP
• Remote Monitor Techs monitor PCU & MST patients
• RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs and bedside cardiac monitoring, especially for ICU patients

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (Day: 0700-1900, Night: 1930-0730)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Fri-Sat nights, Sat-Sun days)
• Holiday Requirement: Rotating holiday schedule to distribute fairly
• Call/Standby: Rotating standby shifts if census is low

Floating Requirements

• Float to Emergency Care MST & Pediatric units to care for adult MST patients
• Float to West Campus ICU & PCU (2-hour notice) to maintain competency across ICU/PCU patient types
• May float to pediatrics with adult assignments

Orientation & Dress Code

• Attend hospital and unit-specific orientation (including End of Week, First to Float, and Night shifts)
• Scrub Color: Any color except camouflage

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts before contract signing
• Radius Rule: Must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) in the past year
• Cannot have worked permanently at another CommonSpirit facility within the last 12 months
