Surgical Services Travel/Contract Job - Bloomington, Indiana

Job Details

  • Department: Surgical unit with 13 OR rooms performing all surgical specialties except transplant
  • Floating: Will float to General OR cases; traveler must confirm acceptance
  • Special Equipment: 2 Xi DaVinci Robots

Certification Requirements

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
  • Required Scrub skills
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on the cost center, including but not limited to:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • Tech Cert Verification (as applicable)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
  • State License Verification (must be current and verified within 30 days before start)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Check within 90 days of start, including:
    • 7 years of residence/work history
    • SSN Trace
    • County, Statewide, National Sex Offender checks
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification (highest applicable education)
    • International search if lived/worked outside the US in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma (official and clear copy)
  • Employment Application and Skills Checklist (current and complete)
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT)
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (Chickenpox)
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine preferred but not required
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score

Additional Notes

  • Indiana RN’s are generally restricted from working at IU Health facilities effective 11/30/24, but Periop/OR RN travelers are exempt and allowed to work past this date.
  • Travelers must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start.
  • On-site Fit Testing is limited and must be approved; PAPR use requires prior facility approval.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and Unit Competency Exam are required.

This position is ideal for experienced Surgical Services professionals comfortable with floating to general OR cases and working with advanced surgical technology in a busy surgical environment.
