Travel RN Opportunity - Med-Surg Unit

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee

Unit Overview

• Unit: Med-Surg with dedicated Ortho/Spine floor
• Number of Beds: 54 total; 11 beds on ortho/spine unit
• Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:5-6
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs): 1:12-15
• Staffing:

  • RN/LPN teams with 10 total staff per team
  • Each hall staffed with 2-3 RNs, 1 LPN (staffing/census dependent), and 1-2 PCTs
  • Unit secretaries available until 8 PM on weekdays
  • Techs and externs available
• Floating Policy: Floating at unit’s discretion
• Scheduling:

  • At least one weekend shift within a 4-week period (can be split)
  • Blocked scheduling handled case-by-case

Patient Population & Procedures

• Medical-surgical patients
• Orthopedic and spine patients
• Trauma patients (stable)
• Psychiatric medical hold patients
• Procedures include:

  • Post-catheterizations without intervention
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy and cholecystectomy
  • Thoracentesis and paracentesis
  • Special procedures performed by Interventional Radiology (IR)
  • Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)

Equipment & Technology

• Alaris infusion pumps
• Remote telemetry
• Continuous pulse oximetry
• Specialty beds and transfer equipment
• Wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
• New 12-Lead EKG machine (easy to use)
• Bladder scanners
• Teletracking system for bed placement
• MobiLab, Patient Keeper, Inspire App, Wound Capture

Documentation System

• Meditech

Required Certifications & Experience

• Active RN license
• Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience
• BLS required
• ACLS optional but preferred
