Labor & Delivery RN Travel Opportunity
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Unit: Birthing Center / Mother Baby
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse for a travel contract. The unit handles approximately 150-180 births per month (over 2,100 annually). The birthing center includes:
- 34 total L&D beds
- 2 OR suites for C-sections
- 2 triage beds
- 14 postpartum beds
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years L&D nursing experience (1 year considered with multiple prior travel assignments)
- Active Washington RN license (pending license submissions accepted; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring preferred)
- Must have LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience
- Comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
- Able to assist with catching and transitioning newborns
- Must be able to titrate drips (common drips: Magnesium, Pitocin, Insulin)
- Must submit 2 years of references with application
Patient Population & Care
- Gestational age: 33 weeks and above
- Common diagnoses: High risk pregnancies including preeclampsia, diabetes, psychosocial issues, positive illicit substance use
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 in L&D, 1:3-4 in couplets (mother-baby)
- Care includes attending low-risk deliveries, postpartum care, and newborn transition
Staffing & Support
- Free charge nurse on both shifts (charge nurse does not take patient assignment)
- One surgical tech available 24/7
- Patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
- 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in nursery
- 24/7 OB anesthesia provider with call room on unit
- Respiratory therapist equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) typically assigned to family birth
- Tele/monitor techs available for PACU after C-section; RNs read their own strips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity-perinatal
Scheduling & Orientation
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Block scheduling available upon request
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat)
- Holiday rotation with permanent staff
- Call/standby: 45-minute response time when on standby
- No floating outside the Mother Baby unit; travelers must be competent in postpartum and newborn care
- Scrubs and locker provided
- Orientation includes:
- 8 hours compliance training with manager
- 8 hours EPIC electronic health record training
- 2-3 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
Unit Policies & Notes
- Surgical hand scrub policy:
- No jewelry on hands/forearms
- No artificial nails or enhancements; natural, well-manicured nails no longer than ¼ inch beyond fingertip
- No open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on hands/forearms
- Manager is supportive and provides feedback to ensure quality care
- Travelers expected to be adaptable to unit workflows, policies, and feedback
