Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Maryville, Illinois

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, PM shift (1900-0730)
• Unit: Medical/Surgical Telemetry (3rd Med Surg)
• Float Requirement: Float to 2 other Med Surg units
• Weekend Coverage: Every 2nd to 3rd weekend
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
• Accepts: First-time travelers
• Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience

Unit and Patient Population

• 3 Medical unit with 10 private rooms and 1 observation bed
• Telemetry monitoring for up to 4 patients with stable dysrhythmias
• Patient diagnoses include:

  • COVID-19
  • Telemetry patients
  • Post-surgical patients (orthopedic, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, general surgery)
  • Medical conditions: cancer, diabetes, renal disease, COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, CVA
• Excludes major neurosurgical and cardiovascular surgical patients
• Patient age group: Adults and Geriatrics (no pediatrics)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association (AHA) required
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA required (if applicable)
• State RN license verification and NURSYS verification required

• Surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-Evac)
• Oxygen delivery devices (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks)
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care including Wound Vac

Equipment and Systems

• Medication system: Pyxis
• Communication system: SBAR
• Special equipment: Safe patient handling equipment, bladder scanner

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy Blue

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Emergency contact form
• Background checks including:

  • Criminal background check within 1 year covering last 7 years of residence/work/school
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check (annual)
  • HHS/OIG check (annual)
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma acceptable)
  • Illinois Adult Abuse Registry Search (required, can pend at start)
• Health documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask testing within 12 months (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within 1 year
  • Flu vaccination strongly recommended but not required
  • COVID-19 exemptions allowed (medical and religious)
• Competency exams:

  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80%)
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication during orientation (2 attempts allowed)
• Employment history verification for 7 years
• Resume and professional references (2 within 2 years)
• Skills checklist (annual)

This position is suitable for RNs with telemetry and med/surg experience who are comfortable managing a diverse adult and geriatric patient population with complex medical and post-surgical needs. The role requires flexibility to float to other med/surg units and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
