Surgical Technologist - Operating Room (Cardiac Open Heart)

Location: Corvallis, Oregon
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Function as a surgical team member in the operating room under RN supervision.
  • Primary focus on cardiac open heart surgery with flexibility to assist in all OR areas as needed.
  • Provide care to patients of all ages, including pediatrics and geriatrics, ensuring quality nursing care.

Department Description

  • Operating Room specializing in cardiac care for surgical and procedural sedation patients.
  • Patient population includes pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and elderly.
  • Collaborate with various provider specialties for patients discharged same day or admitted.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current certification to practice surgical technology in Oregon required.

Qualification Options:

  • Option 1:

    • Completion of surgical technologist training in U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Public Health Service.
    • 16 hours of continuing education every 2 years relevant to surgical technology.
  • Option 2:

    • Completion of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited surgical technology education program.
    • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or recent completion (within 12 months) of the accredited program.
  • Option 3:

    • At least 2 years of surgical technology practice between 2014 and 2017 in hospital, ambulatory surgical center, or federal agency.
    • 16 hours of continuing education every 2 years relevant to surgical technology.
  • One year of scrubbing experience in CVOR/Open Heart procedures or two years of acute care scrubbing experience required.

  • Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

  • Experience or training in computer applications preferred.


Additional Notes

  • Candidates should be prepared to provide availability for interviews.
  • BLS/BCLS certification is mandatory.
