Job Opportunity: RN MCU (Medical Care Unit)
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Medical Care Unit (MCU) serves patients who are less acute and may be awaiting placement in long-term care facilities.
- Patient diagnoses are varied.
- The unit is shared with Inpatient Rehab; nurses may float between MCU and Inpatient Rehab units.
- Inpatient Rehab provides intense rehabilitation services.
- Telemetry experience is preferred.

Job Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Coordinate care with other healthcare team members.
- Maintain high professional nursing standards.
- Effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Required Credentials and Compliance (Must be completed prior to or at onboarding)
Licenses & Certifications
- Registered Nurse license verification (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted)
- CPI/MOAB certification (required for all Psych positions, RN ERs, and RN House Supervisors)
Vaccinations & Health Requirements
- Influenza vaccine or facility declination (due annually by December 1, season Sept 1 – March 31)
- COVID-19 vaccine or declination accepted
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; 1 booster or declination if low/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; 1 booster or declination if low/equivocal
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; 1 booster or declination if low/equivocal
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declinations accepted
- TB Test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG); if history of positive TB, additional documentation required
- Fit Test for approved respirators (completed prior to start)
- Health Statement: Physician statement within last 12 months
Background & Screening
- Background check within 30 days of start (includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender)
- Iowa Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel, THC not required)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- NSO and OFAC checks within 30 days of start (may be combined with background check)
Other Requirements
- Education verification through third party; diploma/transcripts if needed
- Two professional references required (one must be from a supervisor)
- Resume or profile submission required
- Government-issued photo ID (unexpired)
- I-9 attestation (must be on agency letterhead)
- Skills checklist completed within last 12 months
- OSHA questionnaire completed by candidate
- Pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgement form
This position requires flexibility to work across MCU and Inpatient Rehab units, strong clinical skills including telemetry, and compliance with comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
