Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Postpartum/Labor & Delivery)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- Night shifts every other week (12 nights every other week)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- May float to units with similar acuity
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years postpartum nursing experience
- BLS and IV certification
- IV start skills and labor & delivery (L&D) experience
- EPIC electronic health record experience
Preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, Postpartum, and OB units
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Certification required; no 2-year expiration, use indefinite expiration
- State Nursing License Verification: Must be verified within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program)
- Transcript or diploma verification required
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio BCI/FBI codes and within 1 year of start
- Fingerprinting results must be submitted prior to start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- Background check and fingerprinting processes are time-sensitive and must be completed promptly
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements
