Cardiac Cath Lab RN - Peoria, Illinois

Position Overview

• Specialty: Cardiac Cath Lab (Cath Lab RN)
• Location: Peoria, IL
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Department: Cath Lab (6 suites/labs)
• Average Cases per Day: 4-20 cases/day, typically 1:1 nurse to case ratio
• Shift Length: 4-9 hour shifts, occasionally extended for emergent cases
• Orientation: 2-3 shifts (non-billable)

Required Certifications and Skills

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS
• Ability to read cardiac strips
• Experience with titrating drips occasionally

Patient Types and Procedures

• Common Diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, Congenital heart disease
• Procedures: TAVR, MitraClip, Peripheral interventions
• Note: Cath Lab is separate from Interventional Radiology (IR) and Electrophysiology (EP)

Equipment and EMR

• EMR: EPIC
• Monitors: GE and Philips
• Other Systems: McKesson

Team and Call Structure

• Cardiologists: On call 24/7, year-round
• Charge Nurse: Present as resource and coordinator; nurse on-call acts as charge nurse
• Cath Lab Techs: Registered Radiologic Technologists (RTRs)
• Call Teams: 4-person teams for call cases; regular cases staffed with 1 RN and 2 RTRs

Scheduling and Call Requirements

• Call Shifts: 6-8 call shifts per month (primary and backup call)
• Weekend Call: Every 6-7 full weekends (Friday 5:30pm to Monday 6:00am)
• Additional Weekend Backup Shifts: 24-hour shifts, approximately once per month
• Holiday Call: Includes Easter backup call shift
• Floating: No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory

• Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels
• Local Placements: Accepts clinicians within 50-mile radius
• Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
• Non-billable Orientation Hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)

This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs comfortable with high-acuity cardiac cases, call responsibilities, and working in a fast-paced environment with a multidisciplinary team.
