Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Evanston, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Staffed Beds: 719
Charting System: Epic
Position Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes, may float to sister facilities within the health system
- Holiday Requirement: Possible
- On Call: None
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:1
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Contract Length: 6 weeks
Experience & Certifications
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year ICU experience
- First-timers: Accepted
- Required Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Preferred Certifications:
- CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)
Clinical Requirements & Special Skills
- Strong neurosurgical experience preferred, including:
- EVDs (External Ventricular Drains)
- Post-op craniotomy care
- Stroke thrombectomy and TNK administration
- Experience with cardiac surgery patients (CABG, Valve surgeries)
- Care for patients on ECMO, LVAD, TAVR, Impella
- Familiarity with ventilators, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, nitric oxide administration
- Care for tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients
- Experience with conscious sedation, ICP monitoring, IV starts, pulmonary artery lines, telemetry, and ventilators
- Care for OB hemorrhagic patients (Bakri balloon, eclampsia postpartum)
- Administration of TPA (tissue plasminogen activator)
- Experience with deep brain stimulators and spinal surgeries (laminectomies)

Orientation & Testing Requirements
- Pass/fail EKG/medication competency exam required upon arrival (for RNs)
- Basic dysrhythmia competency exam must be passed prior to start (except OR/ISCU RNs and techs)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required
- Facility-specific modules assigned during assignment (not required before start)
- Confidentiality agreement required
- Photo for badge required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific mask types required)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD acceptable for non-clinical with prior Tdap)
- Negative TB test (QGOLD or TSPOT within 90 days) or negative chest X-ray if history of positive TB
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: vaccine series or positive titer required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Hepatitis B titer required (declination or booster acceptable for low titer)
- 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Dec 8 - Mar 31), exemptions accepted with documentation
- Vision exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start
- Color blindness test (Ishihara) within 1 year of start
