Respiratory Therapist Opportunity - Phoenix, Arizona

Facility Overview

  • Located in Phoenix, AZ
  • 607-bed tertiary care center with a focus on quality medical education and research
  • Specialties include lung, liver, and kidney transplants
  • Affiliated with the Barrow Neuro Institute (world’s #1 neuro institute)
  • Teaching hospital with nursing students present
  • Level 1 Trauma center

Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory Therapy
  • Contract length: 13 weeks minimum (no contracts shorter than 13 weeks accepted)
  • Shifts: 12-hour shifts, either 6:00 AM–6:30 PM or 6:00 PM–6:30 AM, 3 days per week
  • Weekend coverage: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month, including holidays
  • Assigned to specific areas daily; no floating to outpatient areas
  • Lead RT on duty every shift
  • Black scrubs required

Requirements

  • Must have Arizona Respiratory Therapist (RT) license in hand
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required (via NBRC)
  • Minimum 2 years of strong ICU experience required; NICU experience preferred
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Must be proficient with at least one ventilator type: Servo I, Jets, Oscillators
  • Must be able to assist with bronchoscopies
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
  • No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
  • Must not hold concurrent contracts with other facilities
  • Must have own vehicle (travel teams only)
  • Clinical prescreen required; no second interview if recommended
  • No 48-hour contracts allowed

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform 35-40 procedures (RVUs) per day
  • Run all ventilators including bipap V60 and cpap
  • Responsible for all arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Respond to Clinical Response Team calls alongside the lead RT
  • Pharmacy coverage available 24/7
  • Participate in unit orientation: 2 days on regular floor followed by skills validation

Additional Notes

  • Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
  • Onboarding paperwork must be completed by 1 PM CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
  • Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility; night shift parking in garage
  • Facility will not consider candidates who have been permanent staff at the hospital system within the last 12 months for travel assignments
