Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 7 weeks


Job Requirements & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required prior to travel
  • Experience must include Neurology, Transplant, General Surgery, GYN, and Orthopedics
  • Unit does not accept first-time travelers
  • Service lines include Bariatrics, Urology, Neurology, ENT, Oral, Plastics, Transplant, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, GYN, and Orthopedics

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Weekend and call schedules are variable and will be discussed during the interview
  • Floating within the facility and outpatient areas as needed, within scope of practice
  • No holiday requests off (RTO) will be approved during blackout dates:
    • 11/23 - 11/29
    • 12/21 - 1/3
  • Maximum 7 days of return to office (RTO) allowed
  • Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week start delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling

Clinical Screening

  • Candidates will undergo clinical screening to determine fit and eligibility
  • Final decision made by the manager after clinical approval

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
    • County and national criminal searches
    • Sex offender registry
    • Education verification (degree related to position)
  • Diplomas/transcripts required for verification
  • Cannot start with background check pending

Licenses & Certifications

  • State nursing license verification within 30 days prior to start (Georgia license required)
  • Annual NURSYS verification for RN, LPN/LVN, AP within 30 days prior to start
  • Required certifications (AHA or ARC accepted, RQI certs acceptable):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for certain specialties (e.g., PACU, ER)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - if applicable
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - online course required within a few months of hire
  • Allied annual license verification if applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification if required by specialty

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for RNs and LVNs (Aya requirement)
  • Color Blind Testing required for all candidates; alternative assessment available if needed
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for specific units (Tele, ICU, ER, etc.) with a maximum of 3 attempts allowed

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (Aya requirement)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start; two negative TB tests required for privileging specialties
  • TB questionnaire required annually for all candidates
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination; declination form required if titer negative)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required (strongly encouraged during flu season Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending

Facility Specific Documents

  • Code of Conduct and Acknowledgement must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Dress and Professional Appearance Policy must be reviewed

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • References: 2 clinical references required (Aya requirement)
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months required
  • Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process

This position is ideal for experienced OR nurses with a strong background in multiple surgical specialties, who are able to comply with strict credentialing and compliance requirements and are flexible with scheduling and floating within the facility.
