ICU RN Position - Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit and Patient Care
- Department: ICU
- Unit Size: 33 beds, average daily census 16
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- RN Responsibilities: Required to titrate drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage advanced RT equipment
- Monitors/Telemetry: RNs read, interpret, and document cardiac strips; GE monitors used; tele tech oversight present
- Floating: Typically to PCU, occasionally MedSurg with usual patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)

- ACLS
- NIHSS
Scheduling and Shifts
- Shift Times: 0630-1830 (day), 1830-0630 (night)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days or less of contract start; no additional RTO approved
Additional Requirements and Policies
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles; driver's license required to verify distance
- Employment Restriction: Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- RN Exam: Pass/fail exam during orientation on Wednesdays; open book with resources provided; 90% required to pass or contract terminated
- Block Scheduling: Not approved except possibly weekends; no duo scheduling or car sharing allowed
- Nurse Aides: Available based on census; assist with 1:1s or floor support; Healthcare Support Tech present 3 days/week (M-F, 0800-1630)
