Registered Nurse (RN) Travel/Contract Position
Location: Kodiak, Alaska
Facility Type: Acute Care Medical Center / Long Term Care Facility / Outpatient
Trauma Level: Level IV Trauma, Critical Access Hospital
Beds: 46 Acute Care, 22 Long Term Care
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (LTC RN)
- Contract Length: 26 weeks (traveler's choice between 13 or 26 weeks)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Shift: 5x8 Variable (either straight days or straight nights; exact shift assigned closer to start date based on staffing needs)
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
- First Timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: No (candidate’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility)
- Pending License Accepted: No
- Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for 1 shift per 2 weeks)
Licensure & Certifications
- Alaska RN license required (must have license in hand)
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Additional certifications may be required based on clinical track (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) but BLS is mandatory.

- Charting System: Epic
- Dress Code: Any scrub color or business casual

Housing & Vehicle
- Facility provides housing (typically 1-bedroom apartments) and a rental vehicle during the assignment.
- Housing available no earlier than 72 hours before contract start and must be vacated within 24 hours after contract end.
- Pets are not allowed. Housing typically accommodates only the traveler; additional family members require approval.
- Housing must be cleaned upon departure or additional cleaning fees apply.
- Vehicle provided for local use only (within 30-mile radius), not for off-road or extended travel.
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle; valid driver’s license and insurance proof required.
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas. Tire chains available at traveler’s expense.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations & Health Screenings:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require positive titer and vaccine series)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
- Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) required for travel starts after 2/5/2024, updated annually
- Respirator Safety Clearance (RespSafety) required for travel starts after 2/5/2024, updated annually
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within last 3 years.
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps.
Training & Competency
- Completion of required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Core modules for caregivers
- Specialty-specific modules if applicable (e.g., LTC, ER, L&D)
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Epic training modules required (completion or transcript submission prior to moving to Paid Day Work status)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable by specialty
- Skills checklists updated annually for applicable units
Additional Notes
- Floating policy acknowledgment required; may be asked to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.
- Locals are not accepted; candidate must live at least 50 miles away from the facility.
- Housing and vehicle use have strict guidelines and traveler responsibilities.
- All documentation and compliance requirements must be met prior to start.
This position offers a travel contract opportunity for RNs with at least 1 year of experience, licensed in Alaska, to work in a Level IV Trauma, Critical Access hospital with both acute and long-term care beds. The assignment offers flexible contract length options, variable shifts, and includes housing and vehicle provisions. Compliance with extensive health, background, and training requirements is mandatory.
