Stress Test Technician (RN) - Contract Position
Location: Hermiston, Oregon

Position Summary
The Stress Test Technician (RN) performs cardiac stress testing procedures under the direction of a cardiologist or supervising provider. The role involves ensuring safe and accurate diagnostic testing, monitoring patients' hemodynamic status, recognizing clinical changes, and providing appropriate nursing interventions. Collaboration with cardiology, clinical staff, and diagnostic services is essential to maintain high-quality patient care and clinical outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress tests according to protocols and provider orders.
- Perform pre-test patient assessments including health history, medications, vital signs, and contraindication screening.
- Place and monitor EKG leads, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and other physiologic indicators during testing.
- Identify EKG changes, arrhythmias, symptoms, or safety concerns and escalate or intervene as appropriate within nursing scope of practice.
- Administer medications used in stress testing (e.g., Lexiscan/regadenoson, dobutamine) per protocol and RN licensure authority.
- Document procedures, patient responses, and clinical data in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Provide patient education regarding the procedure, expectations, risks, and follow-up instructions.
- Ensure equipment functionality, cleanliness, and readiness; troubleshoot common issues.
- Collaborate with cardiologists, technologists, and diagnostic imaging teams to coordinate testing and patient flow.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards such as Joint Commission, state nursing practice acts, and departmental policies.
Required Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Knowledge of cardiac physiology, EKG interpretation, and cardiovascular medications.
- Ability to respond to cardiac emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions.
- Strong communication and patient education skills.
