Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Cardiac ICU


Job Details

  • Schedule:

    • Weekdays and some weekends with rotating holidays
    • Shifts: 7 AM - 7:30 PM / 7 PM - 7:30 AM (36 hours total, day/night)
    • Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
    • Weekend coverage: Saturday/Sunday for day shift, Friday/Saturday for night shift
    • No on-call required
    • Travelers will not be rotated more than once every 4 weeks
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1-2

  • Experience Required:

    • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac ICU experience preferred
    • Previous travel experience preferred
  • Required Skills:

    • IV Start
    • Telemetry (TELE)
    • Ventilators (VENTS)
    • Swan-Ganz Catheters (SWANZ)
    • Conscious Sedation
    • Balloon Pumps
    • Pulmonary Artery (PA) Lines
  • Electronic Medical Record: EPIC experience required


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
  • State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Facility-specific compliance forms and policies must be reviewed and signed

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); mask required if declined
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required
  • Facility dress code and hand hygiene policies must be reviewed and signed
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Notes

  • Travelers must be prepared to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
  • EKG remediation process in place for candidates who do not pass the competency exam on first attempt

This position is ideal for experienced Cardiac ICU RNs with strong critical care skills and EPIC experience, seeking a travel contract in Ohio with a reputable healthcare system.
