Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level III Trauma
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: MS/Tele RN
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to like units or sister facilities
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes
  • Licensure: South Carolina license or Compact license required before start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Special Requirements:
    • Telemetry competency required
    • Previous charge experience preferred
    • Community hospital experience preferred

Scheduling & Hours

  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Block schedule accommodation possible with prior approval (not guaranteed)

Important Seasonal Note

  • During hurricane season (June - November, peak in August and September), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. Confirm availability before accepting or extending assignments during this period.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Licensure:
    • SC RN license or Compact license must be active, unencumbered, and verified via primary source
    • NURSYS verification required
    • Licensure hits must be approved by facility
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years including SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and competency exams required; pediatric OR competency preferred if applicable
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Radiation Badge: Required if assigned to CVOR, OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Echo Techs (adult), and radiology travelers; not required for MRI, mammography, pediatric echo, or ultrasound techs
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay orientation modules must be completed before start
    • Job description acknowledgment required
    • Passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam updated annually
    • Fit mask test done onsite during orientation
    • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented declinations:
      • Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines with boosters if low/negative titer)
      • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
      • Varicella (positive titer or vaccines with boosters if low/negative titer)
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Drug screen: 10-panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
    • COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Respirator medical clearance annually required for patient-facing roles (RespSafety questionnaire)

Certifications Details

  • BLS: AHA certification required for all clinical staff
  • ACLS: AHA certification required for adult critical care units including MS/Tele, Cath Lab, ERICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, Stepdown, PreOp, Observation Unit
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and preferred for MS/Tele
  • PALS: Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR; not required for Adult ER
  • TNCC: Required except not for ER RNs
  • NRP: Required for applicable neonatal roles
  • EFM: AWHONN or NCC certification acceptable
  • Tech Certifications: Required for Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Ultrasound Techs, Pathology Assistants, MLTs (ASCP or registry eligible)

Additional Notes

  • All certifications must be current and not expire within 30 days of assignment start
  • Travelers must upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into the facility system (OurDay) prior to start
  • Facility may require additional competency or safety attestations depending on unit assignment

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced RNs with telemetry skills, working nights in a Level III trauma acute care hospital setting. Compliance with all licensure, certification, and health requirements is mandatory for assignment clearance.
