Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse - Prescott, Arizona

Job Overview

• Acute Care RN position caring for patients undergoing cardiovascular and surgical services.
• Unit size: 14 beds.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 RN to 3-4 PCU patients depending on acuity.
• Unit is fast-paced, focused on cardiac and cardiac surgery care including post-op open heart surgery, STEMI/NSTEMI, chronic vents, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, BiPAP/CPAP patients, thoracotomies, and renal disease.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks.

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active and in good standing Arizona RN license.
• ACLS and BLS certifications.

Experience and Skills

• Minimum 1 year of PCU experience.
• Proficient in EKG interpretation.
• Skilled in IV cardiac medication administration.
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis, chronic ventilators, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing, arterial or venous sheath care/pulling.

• Philips Cardiac Monitors, Telemetry.
• Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors.
• Invasive monitoring equipment.
• Medtronic Pacemakers.
• Cerner EMR system.
• Pyxis medication dispenser.
• Zoll R series defibrillators.
• Sigma Spectrum IV pumps.
• Mistral Air Warming units.

Shift and Schedule

• 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM.
• 3 shifts per week required; option to discuss 4 shifts per week.
• Night and weekend shifts required.
• Floating to ICU preferred; float to Med-Surg/Telemetry required (includes arterial lines and sheath pulls).

Additional Requirements

• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.
• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year.

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs.
• Business-appropriate hair color.

This position involves critical care nursing in a progressive care setting with a focus on cardiovascular patients and requires strong clinical skills and certifications.
