Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg / Ortho RN

Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights

Job Description

• Seeking a traveling Med-Surg RN with orthopedic experience.
• Must be experienced in both general Med-Surg and Orthopedics.
• Unit has 22 beds with an average daily census of 6 patients.
• Common patient diagnoses include total knee, hip, ankle, shoulder replacements, and spine (back and neck) cases.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6.
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment.
• Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a ratio of 1:13.
• Telemetry techs read and interpret monitors; RNs are not required to read their own strips.

Certifications & Requirements

• BLS certification required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application (used to verify distance within 50 miles).
• Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity).
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination.
• RN must pass a 90% or higher on an open-book skills exam during orientation (failure results in termination).

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shifts: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630.
• Self-scheduling allowed with cyclic rotation.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
• Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff.
• Block scheduling generally not approved unless weekends only.
• Duo requests for same schedule or shared transportation are not accepted.
• Orientation: 1 day of unit/department-specific orientation.

Additional Information

• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips.
• Common drips include pain medications, antibiotics, and blood.
• Floating may be required to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU with MedSurg acuity.
• Attributes for success: team-oriented, flexible, willing to learn, takes ownership, and supports teammates.
• Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days or less per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive team environment with a focus on orthopedic and med-surg nursing care during night shifts.
