Job Opportunity: Surgical Technologist (Contract)

Job Description

• Assist in surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision for a variety of advanced and complex surgeries.
• Anticipate surgeon preferences for materials and instruments and respond proactively.
• Update nursing staff based on ongoing assessment of equipment needs and physician preferences.
• Set up sterile tables with instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions required for surgeries.
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble instruments and equipment as needed, preparing them for terminal sterilization.
• Monitor supplies and instruments to ensure sterility and maintain quality assurance in patient care.
• Inventory and monitor assigned service supplies and reorder as necessary.
• Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the department (e.g., in-service classes, special projects).
• Provide input on policy, procedure, and patient care standard changes.
• Serve as backup on-call for emergency surgical cases requiring two surgical technicians.
• Participate in assigned committees and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must have or obtain flu vaccination.
• Must have all required certifications at time of application.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a technologist training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or a recognized accrediting agency.
• Surgical Technologist Certification (CST).
• Current BLS certification.
• Preferred: Minimum 1 year of experience.

Knowledge & Skills

• Anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical instrumentation, suturing materials, needles, prosthetic devices, and other supplies.
• Understanding of wound healing and complications.
• Knowledge of normal growth, development, and life cycle changes relevant to nursing care.
• Proficient in sterile technique and processing.
• Skilled in patient positioning.
• Ability to handle intraoperative requests effectively.

Additional Information

• Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the facility location.
• Housing and travel expenses are not provided.
• BLS/BCLS certification required.
