Registered Nurse (SICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Facility Type: Acute Care, Level 1 Trauma, Teaching Hospital
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Must have a valid District of Columbia nursing license in hand (no pending licenses accepted)
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (medical/religious exemptions not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required; 4 years preferred by manager
- First-time travelers accepted
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- No on-call required
- Floating within scope of practice may be required
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Locals accepted
- Block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: 1 request allowed

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS level 3, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification through primary source (transcripts/diplomas not accepted as sole proof)
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment application including licensure, certifications, education, and employment history
Certifications (Must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start)
- ACLS (ARC, AHA, or DoD approved)
- BLS (ARC, AHA, or DoD approved)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU/SICU)
- Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be preferred or required depending on unit
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam completed by a physician, updated annually
- Fit mask testing within one year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination form)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines, boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B (vaccine series, titer, or declination form)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within last 12 months (instant acceptable)
- Flu vaccine required prior to start (no exemptions accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (booster preferred but not required)
- Additional health documents as applicable (CBC, eye exam, color blind exam)
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Every other weekend and holiday required
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs
- Block scheduling may be accommodated
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
This position is ideal for experienced SICU RNs with a DC license ready to work in a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital environment. Compliance with all licensing, certification, and health requirements is mandatory prior to start.
