Travel RN Opportunity – Labor and Delivery
Location: Kingwood, Texas
Specialty: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: Labor and Delivery
- Beds:
- 4 OBED stretchers
- 7 Antepartum beds
- 10 Labor beds (one room currently down)
- 2 LDOR rooms
- 2 LD PACU bays
- Staffing:
- Total staff: 79
- Day Shift: 1 CNC, 1 Unit Secretary, 8 RNs, 2 Scrub Techs, 1 TCN, 1 Resource TCN
- Night Shift: 1 CNC, 1 Unit Secretary, 7 RNs, 2 Scrub Techs, 1 TCN, 1 Resource TCN
- Patient Ratios:
- OBED: 1:2-4 (acuity dependent)
- Antepartum Unit (APU): 1:2-4 (acuity dependent)
- Labor Delivery Unit (LDU): 1:1-2 (acuity dependent)
- Equipment: Bedside ultrasounds, dopplers, fetal monitors, infant warmers, OR equipment, labor beds, sterile vaginal tables, glucometers
- EMR Systems: Meditech, GE CPN Centricity
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery Unit experience (post-orientation)
- Certifications:
- ACLS
- BLS
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Clinical skills:
- Magnesium Sulfate drip management
- Oxytocin management
- Insulin drip management (occasional)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or certification as a Transition Care Nurse (TCN) for neonates (not required but preferred)
Typical Procedures Performed
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Fetal scalp electrode (FSE) / intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement
- Circulating in Cesarean sections
- Non-stress tests (NSTs)
- Oxytocin induction/augmentation
- Magnesium sulfate therapy for preeclampsia and fetal neuroprotection
- Insulin drip titration
Work Environment & Expectations
- Personality Fit: Flexible and adaptable
- Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs (tops and bottoms)
- Floating Areas: Antepartum Unit (APU)
- Unit Policies:
- Follow attendance policy
- Meet schedule commitments
- Unit may cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract based on census
- Schedule:
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period
- On-call requirements as applicable
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse License in Texas
This position offers an opportunity to work in a busy Labor and Delivery unit with a supportive team and a variety of clinical experiences.
