Registered Nurse (Cardiac Floor) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with cardiac floor experience
- Shift: Nights only, 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratios:
- Surgical step down: 1:4
- Lower acuity: 1:5-6
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
- Float Requirement: Will follow unit rotation; not first to float
- Contract Duration: 13-26 weeks accepted
- Disaster Response: Contract staff expected to work on Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years experience on a cardiac floor
- Traveler experience required unless candidate has over 24 months cardiac experience
- Skills:
- Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Sheath removal and management
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Post MI care, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath
- Management and titration of cardiac drips
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Orientation & Dress Code
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours

Testing & Competency Requirements
- Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency test prior to start (score 82% or higher, 3 attempts max)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color Blind Test within 1 year (score ≥80%)
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry searches required within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required within 1 year
- Negative drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), Flu vaccine or approved exemption
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required for travel staff as of 6/8/2023
Additional Requirements
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start (up to 8 hours)
- Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate
- Must sign facility-specific confidentiality, job description, hospital policies, and other required documents prior to start
- Must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation
- May be required to complete Radiation Badge if applicable (not typical for this role)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care nurses
Important Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
- Candidates must be available for interview within 72 hours of submission
- Contract staff may be reassigned mid-contract based on facility needs
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac floor RNs comfortable with night shifts, cardiac telemetry, and complex cardiac patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment.
