Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Columbus, Ohio
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Department: Oncology Pod Emergency Department (12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
- Shift: 12-hour rotating day/night shifts; schedule may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs. Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but are not guaranteed.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience required
- Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
Certifications Required
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Skills Required
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
Patient Ratio
- 1 nurse to 4 patients
Time Off
- Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application
- Up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for a 14-week contract
Compliance and Credentialing Requirements
- Background Check: 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results
- Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
- Education Accreditation: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- License Verification: State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific code 3701.881
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts)
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available
Additional Facility Policies
- Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy must be reviewed and signed
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Ethics and Compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role
- Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
