Travel RN Opportunity – Med/Surg Unit, Frankfort, KY

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg
  • Location: Frankfort, Kentucky
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

  • Unit: 4th Floor Med/Surg (Unit 611)
  • Number of Beds: 46
  • Patient Ratios: 6:1
  • Staffing: Clinical Nurse Coordinators (charge nurse), RNs, LPNs, PCTs, Nurse Externs, Unit Clerks (staffing based on patient census)
  • Equipment Used:
    • GE Apex Pro Telemetry box
    • Hoyer lift
    • Sara Steady
    • Baxter IV pumps
    • iMobile
    • Alaris PCA IV pump
    • Welch Allen Vitals machine
    • Glucometer
  • Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend, three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Floating Policy: May float to 3 South (post-surgical med/surg) or PCU (telemetry overflow)
  • Procedures Performed: Telemetry monitoring, paracentesis

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum of 2 years med/surg experience
  • Telemetry experience required
  • Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) experience required
  • General med/surg skills, EKG interpretation, CPAP management, port access
  • Preferred advanced skills: chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vac, drains, post-dialysis assessment, central lines, blood transfusions

Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Registered Nurse license in good standing (compact license accepted if applicable)
  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
  • Current NIH certification (must be renewed annually)

Dress Code

  • Navy blue or gray scrubs required
  • No T-shirts, fleece jackets, or sweatshirts allowed
  • Scrub jackets and long sleeve shirts under scrub tops may be any color or pattern
  • Royal blue scrubs are prohibited (reserved for OB/LD staff for infant safety)

  • Supported by a director, manager, and clinical educator

  • Staff feedback, including from contract nurses, is welcomed to improve workflow and patient care
