Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (RRT Adult)
Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position for Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with adult patient focus.
- Must be able to float to Emergency Room (ER) and Adult ICU Stepdown units.
- Minimum 4 years of experience required, including charge experience.
- Mandatory on-call requirement: 3 shifts every 6 weeks.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend plus every other holiday.
- Night shift duties include aerosol, bronchial hygiene, lung inflation therapies, arterial blood gas draw and analysis, CPAP/BiPAP management.
- Experience preferred in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and level 2 trauma.
- Work setting: Adult critical care, ER, community hospital.
- No block scheduling allowed.
- Locals accepted.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions at manager’s discretion.
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider card required.
- CRTT (Certified Respiratory Therapist Technician).
- Virginia State License (VA License) – primary source verification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider card required; 90-day window allowed to obtain after start date for travelers.
- 4+ years charge experience.
Preferred:
- RRT credential.
Required Skills and Experience
- Respiratory therapy experience including:
- Airway management
- Medication administration
- Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Oxygen therapy
- Suctioning
- Pulmonary toileting
- BiPAP, CPAP, nebulizer treatments
- Experience in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and trauma preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs.
Work Environment
- Facility type: Short-Term Acute Care Hospital
- Level II Trauma Center
- Total staffed beds: 431
- Charting system: Epic
Scheduling and On-Call
- Mandatory on-call: 3 shifts per 6 weeks.
- Weekend shifts: every other weekend plus every other holiday.
- No block scheduling allowed.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
- Fit mask (N95) documentation required and must be updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable.
- Annual TB questionnaire if history of positive TB.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug testing within 30 days prior to start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation required but vaccine not mandatory; declination accepted.
Documentation and Verification
- Background checks including lifetime criminal history, education verification, and federal/state checks required.
- Education verification required for highest degree.
- References: 2 required, including one from current year and one within last 2 years, from supervisors or equivalent.
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 years) required.
- Skills checklist required for all clinical candidates.
- Facility-specific documents including code of conduct, confidentiality agreement, orientation packet, and job description must be signed prior to start.
- Completion of facility-required training modules (WorkRamp) may be required depending on role.
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Candidates must attend or acknowledge monthly department meetings.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and credentialing requirements.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level II Trauma Center with a diverse patient population requiring advanced respiratory care skills. Candidates must be experienced, flexible, and compliant with all licensure and health requirements.
