Travel RN Medical/Surgical Position

Location: Evansville, Indiana

Job Description

  • Care for Pulmonary & Medical Overflow patients
  • Unit has 22 beds
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5

Required Credentials & Compliance

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment
  • Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • BLS (American Heart Association) certification
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be current and valid)

Exams & Testing

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, updated as per latest edition)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, updated annually)
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)

Health & Immunizations

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity or two doses of vaccine (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Fit Test: Required annually (preferred prior to start)
  • TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within 1 year, and annual TB questionnaire
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment, updated annually

Background & Verification

  • Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry (within 30 days prior to assignment, updated annually)
  • EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days prior to start
  • Education Verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days prior to start)
  • Employment Verification for past 7 years (updated annually)
  • At least two professional references prior to first assignment

Onboarding Requirements

  • Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no filters)
  • Completion of Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite)
  • Completion of Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment documentation

Additional Notes

  • Some credentials require submission prior to onboarding, others prior to assignment start or during submission process
  • Certain optional checklists may be required by unit leadership after start
  • All exams allow only two attempts to pass with minimum required scores

This position is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical RNs comfortable with pulmonary and medical overflow patients, meeting comprehensive credentialing and compliance standards for Ascension Health travel assignments.
