Job Opportunity: RN PCU (Progressive Cardiac Care)

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • Progressive Cardiac Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient Population: Medical, Cardiac, Pre/Post Cardiovascular Surgery, Arrhythmia, Heart Failure, Stroke overflow
  • Unit Size: 28 beds
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients

Required Credentials & Certifications

Licenses & Verification

  • Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start
  • Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be current and match address requirements)

Certifications (Must be AHA unless otherwise noted)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years)

Exams & Testing (Must be completed prior to start and maintained as required)

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts, updated as new editions released)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, completed within 1 year of start, updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred before start, can be done onsite (specific mask types required)
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Required with timing guidelines; TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Positive PPD: Negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start, updated annually; includes 12 specified drugs

Onboarding Requirements

  • Ascension Badge Photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite
  • Ascension Onboarding Education Attestation: Completion of pre-hire education (6 hours) and attestation upload
  • Ascension Profile: Resume or professional profile submission
  • Two Professional References: Required prior to first assignment
  • Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) Check: Within 90 days of start, rerun if break in service >90 days
  • Education Verification: Relevant clinical education verified within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days
  • Employment Verification: Past 7 years verified; updated annually or after break in service >90 days
  • Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions

Optional/Additional Information

  • Ascension Exit Survey: Optional post-assignment survey
  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist: Optional for onboarding, uploaded by unit leader within a week
  • Hiring Manager Evaluation: Optional post-assignment evaluation
  • Name Change Documentation: Optional legal documentation if applicable

This position requires a highly qualified RN with cardiac care experience, current certifications, and compliance with Ascension Health’s onboarding and credentialing standards.
