Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Facility: Hospital setting with multiple medical-surgical (MS), telemetry (MS Tele), and progressive care units (PCU)


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Floating: Required to all MS, MS/Tele, PCU units within the hospital
  • Ratio / Census:
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS, MS Tele: 1:5-6
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Weekends: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Holidays:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major Holidays Include:
    • New Year’s Eve and Day
    • Spring Break (no return to office)
    • Memorial Day
    • Independence Day
    • Labor Day
    • Thanksgiving/Black Friday
    • Christmas Eve and Day
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Systems and Tools

  • Epic (required)
  • Pyxis
  • SBAR communication method

Compliance and Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)

Required Documentation and Compliance Items

  • Photo ID: Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification
  • Education Verification: Verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
  • State License: Must be valid and verified within 30 days prior to start (Georgia RN license required)
  • NURSYS Verification: Annual verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
    • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Flu vaccination or signed declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (cannot start with results pending)
  • References: Two clinical references required
  • Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process

Competency Exams (Aya Required)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (for RNs and LVNs)
  • Color Blind Testing (all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (Nursing and Allied Health)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, MS/Tele, IMCU, ER, Cardiac Tele/Step-down, ICU, PCU)
    • Candidates allowed 3 attempts; failure on 3rd attempt results in cancellation

Facility Policies

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Acknowledgement prior to start
  • Must review Dress and Professional Appearance Policy

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Floating across multiple units is mandatory
  • No call requirements
  • Orientation and compliance are strictly enforced to ensure timely start
