Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Belleville, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital (Magnet Hospital)
Unit: MS/Tele (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Start date: 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance, biweekly start dates
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Ratios: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Guaranteed hours:
    • 36 hours/week for 3 shifts of 12 hours
    • 48 hours/week for 4 shifts of 12 hours
  • On-call required
  • Floating: Within scope to other MS/Tele floors and nearby facilities
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Pending license: Not accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days within 13-week contract

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have at least 3 years of experience
  • Required certifications:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • Specialize in surgical patients following the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program and protocols

  • Total facility beds: 222
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Navy blue
  • Parking: Free

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., driver's license)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Professional license primary source verification required (Illinois permanent license required for extensions)
  • NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency required, including unit-specific exams (e.g., oncology competency if applicable)
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

Additional Notes

  • Floating may include other MS/Tele floors and nearby facilities within the hospital system
  • Candidates must adhere to all facility policies including dress code and hand hygiene
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call duties and weekend rotations
  • Special certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, MAB, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with night shifts, surgical patient care under ERAS protocols, and working in a fast-paced acute care environment with floating responsibilities.
