Job Opportunity: PCU Nurse - 4th Floor East Wing
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Unit: 4th Floor East Wing
Level of Care: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Number of Beds: 55
Patient Population: Adults primarily; pediatric patients 15 years and older rarely
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts
- Day shift: 06:30 - 18:30
- Night shift: 18:30 - 06:30
- Every other weekend required
Staffing and Support
- RN to patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Nursing assistant support available
- Charge nurse present
- Additional unit support: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy
Patient Care and Common Diagnoses
- Common diagnoses: CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, weakness
- Common drips/medications: PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, insulin
Required Certifications and Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Telemetry competency required
Equipment and Technology
- EMR system: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Specialty equipment: Mechanical lifts available in every other room
Unit Policies and Requirements
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Driver’s license required at submittal to verify distance
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- RN exam during orientation: Pass/fail open book exam on skills learned; must score 90% or higher to continue

- Float assignments expected, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas, based on highest need
- Staffing challenges noted
