Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Facility Type: Large, busy Emergency Department (Non-Trauma)


Job Details

  • Minimum Experience: 2 years (1st time travelers not accepted)
  • Patient Population: Adolescents to Geriatrics
  • Unit: Emergency Department (59 beds)
  • Patient Volume: 165-175 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Electronic Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Rare
  • Call Requirements: Not specified
  • Holiday Work: Required to work major holidays during assignment (see below)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Major Holidays (Work Expected)

  • New Year’s Eve and Day (Dec 31 & Jan 1)
  • Spring Break (April 6-12, no RTO)
  • Memorial Day (May 26)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • Labor Day (Sept 1)
  • Thanksgiving/Black Friday (Nov 27 & 28)
  • Christmas Eve and Day (Dec 24 & 25)

Orientation & Compliance

  • Full compliance required to start on time
  • Orientation scheduled bi-weekly; non-compliance may delay start by 2 weeks
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)

Clinical Screening

  • Candidates reviewed for clinical fit before manager approval
  • Clinical screens sent case-by-case

Required Documents & Verifications

  • Photo ID: Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification
  • Education Verification: Degree verification required; can be pending with proof of processing
  • State License: Georgia RN license verification within 30 days prior to start
  • NURSYS Verification: Annual verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start; instant drug screen acceptable if needed
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)

Competency Exams (Aya Required)

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing (with alternative assessment if needed)
  • General Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (3 attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation)

Additional Facility Policies

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start

  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • References: 2 clinical references required by Aya
  • Skills checklist and work history verification required (can be pending with proof)
