Job Opportunity: RN CVICU (Travel)
Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Facility: Appalachian Regional Healthcare
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years CVICU experience, including experience with fresh hearts
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Schedule: 36/48 hours
- EMR System: Meditech
- License: Must have Kentucky or compact nursing license
- Contract Length: 12 weeks (interpreted as weeks)
- Start Date: Immediate; orientation offered bi-weekly
- Residency Requirement: RN must reside within 100 miles of the facility
- Driver’s License: Required for submission
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA certification, front and back of card if not electronic
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support): Required for all RNs except Psych and True Med/Surg units
- NIH Certification: Required for RN specialties except OR and Psych
- Nursys Verification: Nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- License/Certificate Verification: Kentucky or compact license verification, annual updates required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Proof of completed series required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with documentation
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer required prior to start
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, proof of 3 vaccine series, or declination accepted
- Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer required prior to start
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declinations accepted
- Influenza Vaccine: Required October-March; exemptions require approval
- TB Quantiferon Test: Within one year prior to start
- Positive PPD: If applicable, requires chest X-ray within last 5 years and TB questionnaire
- Annual Physical/Health Statement: Signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP; must state clear to work without restrictions
Background & Compliance
- Background Check: 7-year county, nationwide criminal, SSN trace, national sex offender, SAM, OIG; must be within 30 days of start
- Drug Screen: Comprehensive panel excluding marijuana/THC; must be within 30 days of start
- Professional References: 2 required; one charge nurse or higher, one supervisor within last year
- Submission Packet: Must include cover sheet, resume, skills checklist, driver’s license, and license/certification verification in one PDF
- Assignment Confirmation: Must be submitted within 24 hours of offer acceptance
Skills & Competency Requirements
- ARH Skills Checklist: Unit-specific, within one year prior to start
- ARH Competency Exam: Unit-specific, within one year prior to start
- ARH Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Safety Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Elder Abuse and Neglect, Age Specific Care, Cultural Diversity, Advance Directives; annual update required
- ARH EKG Exam / Telemetry Exam: Unit-specific, within one year prior to start

- Must have Cardiovascular ICU experience, specifically with fresh hearts
- Orientation is bi-weekly; start date on job is the start date needed
- Candidates should not be submitted to more than one job at a time
