L&D/Post Partum Travel Nurse Opportunity

Location: Bay City, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Details

• L&D Beds: 4
• Triage Beds: 2
• Postpartum Beds: 6
• Births per day: 1-4 (very rural hospital)
• Common patient types: 35 weeks gestation or greater, antepartum, some post-surgical recovery

Certifications Required

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• NRP (AHA)
• STABLE Certification
• Intro to Fetal Monitoring (not via AWHONN)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of travel nursing experience
• Minimum 2 years of specialty experience in L&D/Postpartum
• C-section experience required

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • L&D: 1 nurse to 1-2 laboring patients depending on acuity
  • Postpartum: 1 nurse to 5-6 moms
• Charge Nurse: 1 charge nurse for L&D, Postpartum, and Nursery combined
• OB/Neonatologist: On-call, not in-house
• OB Techs: 1 tech from 7am-3pm, 1 tech from 3pm-11pm, on-call 11pm-7am
• Respiratory Therapist: Available 6am-7pm
• Pharmacy: Available 6am-9pm; house supervisor mixes meds, pharmacist on call

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm, 7pm-7am)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff based on schedule
• No call required
• Orientation: Floor-specific, up to 2 days max
• Scrubs: Provided or can wear royal blue; must change into hospital scrubs for C-sections

Additional Notes

• Floating: Primarily between L&D and Postpartum units; nursery experience preferred but not required
• EMR Systems:

  • Fetal Heart Monitoring: Centricity QS
  • Postpartum documentation: Meditech
• 7 on / 7 off schedule with 36/48 hour rotating shifts

This position is ideal for experienced L&D/Postpartum nurses comfortable in a rural hospital setting with a strong background in labor, delivery, postpartum care, and C-section support.
