ICU/Tele RN Travel Assignment - West Virginia

Location

• City: Ranson, West Virginia
• Facility: Community hospital with a 6-bed ICU/Telemetry unit (5 ICU beds, 5 Telemetry beds)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: SCU/Telemetry (Cost Center - 20)
• Total Beds: 10 (5 ICU & 5 Telemetry)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:3-5 depending on acuity
• Monitor Techs: Phillips Cardiac Monitors; monitor techs present at nurses station
• Equipment: Vents, Bipap, Cpap, High-Flow oxygen
• EMR System: EPIC
• Drips: Yes
• Respiratory Therapist: In-house 24/7
• Pharmacy: Not in-house 24/7; pharmacy kits available for high-frequency drips
• Hospitalist Coverage: In-house 7 am - 5 pm; family medicine resident covers after hours
• IV Team: None

Shifts & Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7 am - 7 pm / 7 pm - 7 am)
• Shift Type: Mostly days, occasional nights or evenings
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights, Sat/Sun days)
• Holidays: Work integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation
• Scheduling: No self-scheduling; block schedules accommodated if unit needs are met
• Floating: Possible float to MedSurg with full assignment (ratios 1:5-6), but rare

Orientation

• One shift on the unit with a preceptor

Certifications Required

• Current West Virginia RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS
• NIHSS certification is a plus

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Scrub Color: Navy blue scrubs (traveler must provide); jackets allowed (navy, grey, or black); no sweatshirts/hoodies
• Appearance: Natural hair color only; excessive or distasteful tattoos must be covered
• COVID Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (2 Moderna/Pfizer shots or 1 J&J shot) or approved medical/religious exemption
• Drivers license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
• Positive attitude and willingness to work are essential
• No charge nurse currently; when re-established, charge nurse will have a lighter patient load

Patient Population

• Variety of patients including trauma, bowel obstructions, COPD, vented overdoses, COVID-19
• SCU/Telemetry unit has served as the COVID unit with an average daily census of 9 patients
