LDRP RN Opportunity - Williston, North Dakota

Position Details

  • Specialty: LDRP RN (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
  • Location: Williston, ND
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Department: LDRP RN - Float (Labor & Delivery/Postpartum with float to Medsurg & ER as needed)
  • Shift Times:
    • 06:45 AM – 07:15 PM
    • 06:45 PM – 07:15 AM
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling only (no self-scheduling)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Call/Standby: Depends on staffing
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation

Unit Information

  • Beds: 15 total (7 Labor & Delivery, 8 Postpartum)
  • OR Suites for C-Sections: 1
  • Births: Approximately 58 per month
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • 1:1 for patients on pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips
    • 1:3 couplet care (mother and baby)
  • Common Patient Diagnoses: Obstetric/neonatal cases, hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM); typically avoid delivering before 36 weeks gestation
  • Float Requirements: Nurses float to Medsurg and ER as needed; permanent staff usually float first

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred Certifications: ACLS, NRP, STABLE
  • Experience:
    • Ability to read and interpret fetal heart rate strips (EFM)
    • Critical thinking skills
    • Previous travel nursing experience preferred
  • Clinical Skills:
    • Must be able to titrate drips (pitocin, insulin, magnesium)
    • Able to read own fetal monitoring strips
    • Follow quality metrics and protocols

Staffing & Support

  • Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes patient assignments
  • Support Staff: CNAs assist with vitals, transfers, ambulation, and paperwork; unit is locked so CNAs may remain at desk as needed
  • Physician Coverage: No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow), but RNs are not required to operate beyond troubleshooting
  • Tele/Monitor Techs: Not available on unit; RNs read their own strips

Equipment & Systems

  • Fetal Monitoring System: TraceView/PIP
  • Tele Monitors: Philips brand
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Dress Code

  • Scrub color is maroon; scrubs are provided and changed into on the unit (surgical scrubs)

Additional Notes

  • Successful nurses on this unit are adaptive to change, strong critical thinkers, and effective communicators
  • Radius rule: Candidates must be within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities in the past 12 months
  • Return to Office (RTO) needed upfront; no additional RTO approvals after submission
