Job Summary
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Participate in identifying and meeting own learning needs; attend education programs.
- Use patient education materials relevant to patient population with assistance.
- Assess readiness to learn and developmental level of patient/family/caregivers.
- Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in care plan revisions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care and communicate relevant information.
- Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
- Follow healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
- Organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs.
- Consult appropriate resources timely for complex care issues or discharge planning.
- Develop professional growth goals and participate in unit goals and performance improvement.
- Promote cost-effective care and provide feedback to co-workers.
- Maintain awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
- Recognize and synthesize complex assessment data to determine care priorities.
- Assess and anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to support advocacy.
- Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update care plans, addressing cultural and ethnic issues.
- Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
- Engage in research by reading relevant journals and contributing ideas/questions to staff.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 1 year nursing experience caring for acute and chronically ill patients.
Education Requirements
- Nursing Diploma OR
- ADN or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
Preferred:
- BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
Certifications & Licensure
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
