Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro RN)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: 23 bed Med Surg Neuro unit
  • Shift: Days, starting at 06:45
  • Schedule: Weekends only (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • First-timers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required: BLS & NIH
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope as needed
  • Block Schedule: Possible, discuss with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License: Must have active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days onsite

Special Requirements

  • PICC line management experience required
  • Experience with starting IVs required
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Cerner charting experience preferred

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years (including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
  • Illinois-specific searches (Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry) within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification (degree or transcript)
  • Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo (color, plain background) required before start
  • Signed Code of Conduct within 7 days of contract signing
  • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by 11/30
  • Parking permit form to be completed within 7 days of contract signing (if applicable)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella) or signed declination
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually

Additional Notes

  • Candidate may be called off up to 36 hours during the 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
  • If called off beyond allowed hours, payment for cancelled shifts applies
  • On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if used in lieu of cancellation

This position is ideal for RNs with Med Surg Neuro experience looking for weekend travel assignments in a Level I trauma, Magnet hospital setting with Cerner EMR experience.
