Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ED RN) - Portland, Oregon
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)

- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (1700-0530 and 1900-0730)
- Patient Ratios: 1:3-4
- Start Date: Every Tuesday (January starts accepted)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years nursing experience
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 1 year travel experience with recent EPIC experience
- Weekend Requirement: Yes
- Call Requirement: No
- Floating: Yes, within hospital only (no floating to sister hospitals)
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated unless otherwise stated
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License: Accepted if application submitted and received by licensing board
- Return to Office Restrictions: Maximum 1 week
Required Experience & Skills
- EPIC electronic health record experience
- Trauma experience
- Ability to perform procedures such as moderate & deep sedation, ultrasound, intubation, cardioversion, D&C’s, sexual assault exams, CPR, and imminent deliveries
- Comfortable managing patients with trauma, acute stroke, STEMI, psychosis/psychological emergencies, sepsis, and complex medical histories including substance abuse
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA provider only)
- ACLS (AHA provider only)
- PALS (AHA provider only)
- TNCC preferred
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred for some roles

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Physical exam (Aya standard: within 1 year of start)
- Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (N95 or equivalent masks required)
- Immunizations and titers required or signed declinations for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Flu seasonal vaccination (deadline 12/01/2025)
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use and signed form
- TB testing: Negative 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD within 12 months; chest x-ray if positive history; TB questionnaire required
- References: Two manager or supervisor references from last 24 months required (charge RN references only if direct supervisor)
- Employment application with 7 years of work history required
- Skills checklist within 1 year of start
- Competency exams with required passing score of 85% or higher
Facility Specific Requirements
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific Compass training modules prior to start (different modules for RN and non-RN roles)
- Medication override test provided for RNs (not required before start)
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed (e.g., coronavirus protocol attestation, vaccine declination/waiver forms)
- Advanced screening release authorization required for background checks
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up to start date; planned unavailability must be communicated in advance
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs with EPIC and trauma experience who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are ready for a 13-week travel assignment in a Level I Trauma Center teaching hospital.
