Physical Therapist (Seasonal) - Hattiesburg, Mississippi

Position Overview

• Responsible for implementing physician's orders for physical therapy services.
• Provide comprehensive physical therapy within an interdisciplinary environment.
• Facilitate patient return to an independent and safe lifestyle.
• Care for pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients using growth and development knowledge.
• Assess and interpret patient data to meet age-specific needs.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient evaluations using appropriate functional tests and measures.
• Integrate objective measures with social factors, medical stability, activity restrictions, and comorbidities to determine functional deficits.
• Develop short-term, long-term, and personal/family goals with appropriate frequency and duration.
• Establish therapy diagnosis and plan of care.
• Physically tolerate moving equipment and patients safely.
• Document securely and accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Use critical thinking in patient evaluation and treatment planning.
• Apply knowledge of moist heat and other physical agent modalities.
• Utilize age-specific patient care indicators.
• Understand musculoskeletal, nervous, and integumentary systems as related to patient care.
• Identify learning needs of patients and family members.
• Collaborate as a team member to assist patients and families throughout acute therapy care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved four-year Bachelor’s degree Physical Therapy program.
• Hold a valid permanent or Compact Physical Therapist license from the Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Complete 2 hours of CVA-specific continuing education within the first week onsite (must be obtained within the last 4 months).
• Minimum experience required (one of the following):

  • 1 year full-time acute care experience, or
  • 2 years skilled nursing/inpatient rehab facility experience, or
  • 2 years acute care experience in a part-time capacity.

Certifications/Licensure

• Active, good standing Physical Therapist license or Compact License with Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• CVA-specific continuing education (2 hours within recent 4 months) completed upon hire or within first week onsite.

This position requires physical stamina, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to provide age-appropriate physical therapy care.
