Telemetry Nurse - 2 South Unit

Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Facility Information

• 2nd Floor telemetry unit with 20 private beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 (day and night shifts)
• EMR system: EPIC
• Charge Nurse: May float between 2nd & 6th floors or assigned per floor; charge nurses take full patient assignments
• Nurse Aides: Typically 3 PCTs per floor when fully staffed; sometimes only 1 PCT
• Telemetry monitors: Phillips Cardiac Monitors with central monitoring station; data flows directly into EPIC
• Respiratory Therapy (RT): In-house 24/7
• Pharmacy: In-house 24/7, on unit during the day with Omnicell system
• Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
• IV Team: None

Certifications & Requirements

• Required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA)
• Open to first-time travelers
• Scrub color: Navy blue scrubs or white jacket; undershirt white or navy
• Hair must be natural color (no pink, purple, blue)
• Distasteful tattoos must be covered

Work Schedule & Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) for both day and night
• Scheduling: Use Kronos for schedule requests; requests entered 2 weeks in advance for 4-week blocks; block scheduling may be allowed if in contract
• Weekend rotation required
• Holiday rotation possible but travelers may be excused if possible
• Orientation: 1-2 days depending on experience

Patient Population & Care Details

• Common diagnoses: Elevated troponin (no titration), no DKA, no ventilated patients, active chest pain, pre/post cardiac catheterization (with or without intervention), post-STEMI after ICU recovery, NSTEMI, peritoneal dialysis (training provided), pacemakers, occasional post-surgical (hip if ortho full or cardiac issues), oncology patients (if unit full)
• Drips managed per protocol: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin, Nitro (set rate)
• Ventilators: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow managed by RT
• Nurses monitor telemetry strips every 4 hours and document rhythm review in patient chart

Additional Notes

• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; previous permanent or traveler candidates have specific rehire timeframes
• Background checks must be disclosed at submission
• Drivers license must be from outside 50 miles radius of facility
• Floating to ICU for overflow or Ortho/MedSurg possible
