Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Jefferson, North Carolina

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Location: Jefferson, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM), 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Patient Population: LDRP Unit (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 100 births per year (small unit)
  • Patient Care: Both mother and baby care, including higher acuity/high risk cases
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Float Requirement: Must float to MedSurg, CNA, secretary, and/or helping hands as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Based on department needs
  • Unit Systems: Centricity, Meditech Magic
  • Scheduling: Manager schedules
  • Scrubs: Navy Blue

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates
  • Skills: Fetal Heart Monitoring
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

Unit Details

  • Small, autonomous unit requiring strong experience
  • Higher acuity and high-risk maternal and neonatal cases
  • Candidate must be comfortable working independently

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background checks within 90 days for all locations lived in the last 7 years
  • Education verification for highest degree earned (RNs may start with pending verification if license is valid)
  • State-specific searches including North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask required (PAPR training not accepted in lieu at this facility)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B titer or facility-specific declination form
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccine no longer required for travel positions

Competency and Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing within 1 year via Relias
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialties (not required for L&D)
  • Other competency exams as applicable based on unit and specialty

Orientation and Documentation

  • Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation required for travel staff (approx. 8 hours of modules)
  • Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and dress code acknowledgment
  • Photo for badge required prior to start (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Corporate ID setup and I-Learn account activation required prior to start
  • Medication Safety training module completion required with certificate of completion

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badges required only for specific tech and radiology roles (not applicable for this RN role)
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel acute care RNs
  • Performance evaluations required if worked with Aya Healthcare over 1 year
  • Employment application must be uploaded prior to start

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with autonomous work in a small, specialized LDRP unit caring for both mothers and newborns, with a requirement to float to other departments as needed. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and competency testing is mandatory.
