Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: 6 East Transplant (22-bed intermediate PCU/medical-surgical unit)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Patient Ratio: Night shift ratio varies between 1:3 or 1:4 depending on staffing
- Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs
- Patient Population: Pre- and post-operative transplant patients (liver, kidney, kidney/pancreas), nephrology, and urology patients
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 820
- Charting System: EPIC
- Scrub Color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1+ year recent RN experience
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER; check unit-specific requirements)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Local Radius: 60 miles (locals accepted on a case-by-case basis)
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Important Notes
- Hurricane Season: June through November; all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Travelers should avoid confirming new or extended assignments during peak months (August and September) if this is a concern.
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs.
- Parking: Parking permit required for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Licensure & Verification
- South Carolina RN license primary source verification required (3-5 weeks processing; walk-through/temp license option available for eligible candidates)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- All licensure hits must be approved by the facility
Certifications
- ACLS and BLS must be current and valid (no certificates expiring within 30 days of start accepted)
- NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
- Other certifications (PALS, TNCC, CHEMO, EFM, etc.) as applicable to specific units or roles
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Required searches include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and transcript/diploma preferred or required
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Required immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), with medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Facility Specific
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Upload vaccination records (COVID, flu) into facility system
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment application with full work history, including PTO and contract assignments, no unaccounted gaps
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not required for this PCU RN role)
