Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Charleston, South Carolina

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratio: Night shift ratio varies between 1:3 or 1:4 depending on staffing
  • Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Unit: 6 East Transplant - 22 bed intermediate PCU/medical-surgical unit
  • Patient Population: Pre- and post-operative transplant (liver, kidney, kidney/pancreas), nephrology, and urology patients
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Solid Royal Blue or White top with Royal Blue bottoms
  • Parking: Permit required for garage parking; additional fees may apply for other locations

Requirements

Experience & Licensure

  • Minimum 1+ year recent RN experience
  • South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact RN License required
  • First-time travelers accepted

Certifications (AHA only unless noted)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required by unit
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required (not required for ER RNs)
  • Other certifications as applicable to unit or specialty

Competencies

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Color Blind Testing required prior to start
  • Competency Exam required (Peds OR comp exam preferred for Pediatric OR)

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local radius: 60 miles
  • Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam (initial and annual) attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest X-ray if positive history
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated

Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Background checks including 7-year history, SSN trace, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and diploma/transcripts as needed
  • Primary source verification of state license (active, unencumbered)
  • NURSYS verification for RN licenses
  • Photo for badge: clear, passport-style, solid light background, business casual attire, frontal view only
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
  • Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not applicable for this RN position unless specified)

  • Travelers must upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into the facility’s system prior to start
  • Failure to complete required modules or provide documentation may result in being sent home or delayed start
  • Facility may require additional certifications or competencies based on specific unit needs
  • Candidates with background or licensure issues may face delays or require facility approval

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity transplant PCU within a prestigious Level I Trauma and Magnet-designated teaching hospital. Night shift nurses will care for complex transplant and nephrology patients with support from advanced monitoring technology. Compliance with strict credentialing, health, and safety requirements is mandatory.
