    Description

    Job Opportunity: Medical-Surgical Tele Float Pool Nurse

    Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 1 - 60 mile radius float zone around Colorado Springs)
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Position Overview

    • Float pool nurse covering multiple units within a 60-mile radius zone.
    • No home base facility; must be willing and able to float to various hospitals within the zone.
    • Units include General Medical-Surgical Telemetry and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.

    Required Certifications & Experience

    • ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS certifications required.
    • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience.
    • Neuro experience preferred.

    Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

    • Adult to geriatric patients.
    • Conditions include cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.

    Clinical Responsibilities

    • RNs are required to titrate heparin drips.
    • Charge nurse assigned on each unit; typically does not take patient assignments unless necessary (more common on night shifts).
    • Nurse aides are present on units.
    • Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are used.

    Scheduling & Shifts

    • 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm).
    • Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time.
    • Flexibility required to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
    • All time off requests must be submitted before assignment start.
    • Weekend requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
    • May be required to participate in holiday rotation.
    • Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.

    Orientation & Onboarding

    • 1-2 days orientation with a preceptor.
    • Clinicians must be in-state for orientation week, even if some modules are remote.

    Additional Notes

    • Must secure housing that allows floating throughout the entire 60-mile zone.
    • Float assignments may include ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
    • Dress code: Any scrub color allowed.

    This role is ideal for experienced MS-Tele nurses who enjoy variety, flexibility, and working across multiple specialties and facilities within a regional float pool.
