Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (4 x 10hr day shifts)
  • General hours: 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM
  • No weekends or holidays required

Orientation

  • Minimal orientation with the infusion unit
  • No need to attend central orientation again
  • Badge transfer handled internally

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Must have a valid nursing license (Ohio or compact license with Residency Declaration Form if from another state)
  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • Counties lived/worked
    • Nationwide search
    • Sex offender registry
    • Motor Vehicle Record (if driving required)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using code 3701.881
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprints are pending
  • Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN) required
  • NURSYS verification required for license validation

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Upload with extended expiration (3/3/3000)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
  • State License Verification: Required within 30 days of start
  • Tech Cert Verification (for Surgical Techs and SPTs): Required within 30 days of start

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya candidates only)
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
    • Minimum passing score: 76%
    • Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation process

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed with documentation)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Facility-Specific Policies & Documents

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and form required
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required and must be updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
  • Fingerprint proof of completion required (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)
  • Background acknowledgement form required for subcontractors
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leader)

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting results can take 1-2 weeks; delays possible if background hits occur
  • Fingerprinting must be done at approved locations (Fast Fingerprints preferred)
  • Candidates with breaks in service over 90 days may require new fingerprinting
  • Candidates can renew BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications at the facility if needed
