Rehab RN Position - Kankakee, Illinois

Job Details

• Department: Rehab
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - required
  • Rehab certification - a plus
  • QIM experience - preferred
• Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year inpatient acute rehab experience (not SNF or LTACH)
  • Previous travel experience highly preferred
• Patient Population:

  • Patients transferred from med surg/telemetry units
  • Post-op cardiovascular surgery, falls, knee and back surgeries
  • Neurological conditions such as strokes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s
  • Some post-acute COVID patients for conditioning
  • Patients with PICC lines and ports

Unit Information

• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6-8 depending on acuity
• Nurse Aids/Techs: 2-3 techs per shift for ADLs, vitals, and showers
• Charge Nurse: Team Lead during the day until 11pm; charge nurse on nights, weekends, and holidays
• RT Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP allowed if patient uses at home; RT assists with settings
• Monitoring: No continuous telemetry monitoring; no tele/monitor techs on unit
• Drip Titration: RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Common IV Fluids/Titrations: IVF, electrolytes, antibiotics, blood

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts, 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM
• Scheduling: Team Lead/Manager builds schedule; attempts to accommodate block scheduling and flexibility
• Weekend/Holiday Work: Expected to work weekends and holidays as needed
• Call/Standby: Standby required in case of low census and pending admissions
• Floating: May be required to float to MedSurg units

Orientation & Other Information

• Orientation: One 12-hour shift with a preceptor on the unit
• Uniform Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
• Additional Requirements:

  • BLS certification required
  • Valid driver’s license required for submission
• Clinical Prescreen: Facility requires a clinical prescreen; if recommended, hiring manager has 24 hours to accept or decline without a second phone interview

This position is ideal for experienced inpatient acute rehab RNs looking for a 3-month contract in a busy rehab unit with a diverse patient population.
