Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics Specialist
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily with PICU/NICU patients; PICU/NICU experience is required.
- May float to Adult ED or Adult critical care based on skill set and hospital needs.
- Procedures include: Blood gas analysis, ventilator/BiPAP/High flow initiation and management, code response, in-house transport, medication administration, chest physical therapy.
- Equipment experience preferred: Servo I & U ventilators, V60 BiPAP.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Must have NJ License and BLS certification.
- Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) are highly preferred; onsite certification possible.
- 1.5+ years of acute care experience required.
- Every other weekend schedule (Friday/Saturday).
- Traveler-friendly unit.
- First-time travelers are accepted.
- All Return to Office (RTO) or schedule accommodations must be submitted with application.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- NJ State License (RN or applicable to specialty)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Highly preferred; can certify onsite.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Preferred for PICU and pediatric units.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for NICU and related units.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., CHEMO certification for oncology units).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start; must include all aliases and locations lived/worked in past 7 years. No open cases allowed at start.
- Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen required within 30 days of start.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
- Fit test for respirator use (N95) required onsite prior to start.
- Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable.
- Respiratory Medical Clearance: Required prior to start; must be updated annually.
- Competency Exams: Medication test, Dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and other unit-specific competency exams required within 72 hours of signing contract.
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required with verification; New Jersey candidates require at least 1 year prior work verification.
Additional Notes
- Must complete facility-specific floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs; online portion can be completed prior to start.
- Annual education sign-off and various CEUs (Continuing Education Units) required depending on specialty and unit.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required; remediation available but failure after 3 attempts results in cancellation.
- First-time travelers are welcome.
- Traveler must bring all required documentation to orientation.

- Every other weekend off (Friday/Saturday).
- Traveler-friendly unit with opportunities to float based on skills and hospital needs.
